Taylor Made Performance Labs

What Is Custom Fitting?
Custom fitting in the broadest sense is building a club designed to match your individual swing characteristics so that you hit the ball longer and straighter with better control. TaylorMade Performance Labs is able to provide golfers with "Golf's Ultimate Fitting Experience" utilizing the same revolutionary advancements in motion capture technology seen in such films as Lord of the Rings, Polar Express, King Kong, Batman, and The Tiger Woods Video Game.

Previously available only to PGA Tour professionals, the two-hour custom fitting experience is conducted in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and includes driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putter. It is beneficial to men, women, and junior golfers of all ages and skill levels.

How Does It Work?

During the fitting process, reflective markers are placed on strategic points on your body as well as on the shaft and head of the fitting club. Nine separate high speed synchronized cameras capture the motion of the reflectors and instantaneously produce a three dimensional image of the subject. This 3-D image can be viewed in motion from any angle (from above, below, front, back, or either side) and is used to demonstrate what your swing is doing dynamically. The image can easily be manipulated to provide valuable feedback for you to better understand your swing characteristics. Additionally, data collected from our specialized launch monitor is integrated with the motion capture data.

Some of the aspects which we measure and which you can view are:
  • Clubhead Path
  • Swing Planes
  • Speed Planes
  • Center Of Gravity
  • Body Line on Shoulders, Hips, Knees, Toes, and Spine

How Long Does It Take?

The fitting process involves placing the special reflectors on your body in order capture a number of swings with the driver, iron, wedge and putter to gain a true representation of your swing dynamics and impact position. These swings are analyzed by a custom fit specialist and PGA qualified professional, which takes approximately 1.5 hour. Once this has been completed and understood, you will be escorted out on to our grass range to validate the club recommendations for the remainder of the two-hour session.

What Does It Cost & What Is Included?

The cost for the fitting session is $400 for the general public and $300 for Olympia Fields Country Club members. This cost includes all the above, plus a CD which shows all the captured swings in 3-D for you to view on your computer, which you can share with your family, friends and teacher. You will also receive a print-out of the swing summary and recommendations. Any required customization such as length, lie, loft, shaft and grip are included in the price at no extra charge. Additionally, special arrangements have been made with the TaylorMade factory to build your custom fit clubs within 48 hours then shipped directly to you. There is no obligation to purchase any equipment from us. However if you choose to do so, our prices for your custom made clubs are the lowest available from any authorized TaylorMade retailer, including the discount stores and the internet.

TaylorMade Performance Lab’s certified professionals are now fitting men, women and junior golfers of all ages and abilities to a custom set of TaylorMade golf clubs using exclusive Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade, previously available only to Tour professionals.

Using motion capture technology, 32 reflective markers are placed on strategic points of the golfer’s body as well as on the shaft and head of the fitting club to capture a number of swings with the driver, iron, wedge and putter. Nine special high-speed cameras detect the reflectors and display a three-dimensional computer-animated image of the customer viewable from every angle, allowing a teaching pro to make accurate critiques and recommendations. The two and one-half hour custom fitting experience includes recommendations for a driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, putter and even the correct golf ball.

Following the swing analysis and club recommendations, demo clubs are built on-site with the customer’s correct swing specifications and the player can then validate the system’s recommendations on the driving range.

New custom TaylorMade golf clubs built to recommended specifications are shipped within 48 hours. The fee for this custom fitting service is $300 for members of Olympia Fields Country Club and $400 for non-members
