The South Course at Olympia Fields
The award winning South Course at Olympia Fields Country Club is remarkable for its dramatic elevation changes and its strategic use of Butterfield Creek.
The South Course - formerly the club's No. 1 Course - was designed in 1915 by Tom Bendelow of Aberdeen, whose more than 600 courses include such classics as the Atlanta Athletic Club and Medinah No. 3. In 2007, the South Course was renovated by Steve Smyers, whose work on the course was ranked No. 2 in Golf Digest's 2010 list of Best New Renovations. Par for the South Course is 72 strokes played over 7,114 yards with a rating of 74.7 and a slope of 144. The South Course is ranked 146 in the United States on Golfweek's 2016 list of the "Best Classic Courses," above Worcester (No. 147) and Oak Hill (West) (No. 156).
